"PASSPORT
IN TIME" PROJECT: "Working in the Whitehouse II"
The
last "Working in the Whitehouse II" PIT project took place on
May 4th through May 6th 2004 at the Whitehouse ruins in Madera
Canyon. Eight volunteers from the FOMC along with volunteers
from the Forest Service archeological unit cooperated in the
"dig." This activity was the follow-up to a similar cooperative
PIT Project in the summer of 2002. New programs occur almost
annually, so look for information under News on this website.

Work in Progress
Applying Abode Cap
The following excerpt from a letter
to the FOMC from Chris Schrager, archeologist from the Forest
Service explains the project:
"We were able to get a tremendous amount of work done, including
training volunteers from the FOMC in adobe stabilization, testing
some of the circular depressions in the vicinity of the ruin,
and completing a number ot test excavations in the structure's
interior fill. Our
success will assist us in a greater understanding of the historic
use of the site, and a possible re-evaluation ot its eligibility
for listing on the National Register of Historic Places. Additionally,
we are already looking forward to follow-up projects for next
year, to focus on adobe stabilization efforts at other historic
sites." The volunteers all had a great time and are looking
forward to more "digs."
